NEW GRAPHICS WITH ARTIST PAUL FUENTES
Basic objects. Not-so-basic situations. Say hello to artist, graphic designer and daydream conveyer Paul Fuentes.
The energy of graphic designer Paul Fuentes’ pieces are, in their own way, eclectic. By staging everyday objects into thought-provoking and boldly colorful compositions, the Mexican-city based artist fuses his talents of design with photography, bringing bright mashups laced with mischievously humorous sensibilities. Fuentes takes random, common objects (high heels, donuts, snakes) and splashes them with a contemporary perspective — alongside pastel-colored backgrounds that give life to his creamy, minimal depictions of pop art. Even the fanciest, most discerning eyes can offer a smile of appreciation for the whimsically-effortless works of @paulfuentes_design.
BACK TO THE BEGINNING.
I’m a graphic designer born and raised in Mexico City, and still living and working here. I’m 27, almost 28, and I work in a social magazine as the editorial designer. I’m a musician as well. These days I’m looking for opportunities for work in Europe, I’m giving interviews and working on some interesting projects.
THE IMPLICATION BEHIND IDEAS OF TODAY’S MODERN OBSESSION WITH MASS PRODUCTION AND INSTANT GRATIFICATION, AND HOW THIS AFFECTS OUR VIEWPOINTS ON DAILY SOCIETY.
I simply believe that many people formulate their goals in life through acquiring goods. I don't pretend to change the world, I just make fun of pop art and consumerism in a colorfully aesthetic way. I think we are losing our ability/the power of surprise.
HEY PEOPLE, DON'T FORGET TO SMILE.
I always choose humor, even the basic needs of a human being, like eating, it needs to have humor — and I try to get people to smile with stupid things such as candies or ice creams, makes me laugh… I love the idea of telling a joke without words.
DREAMING OF A MASHUP.
I’m really open to creative mashups, so I don’t have any specific collaboration aspirations. Just, of course, to work with the best — and learn how mass productions work. But to name a few right now, it would be, artist: David LaChapelle. brand: Lacoste. musician: Chromeo. animal: Alligator.
My piano is my favorite personal object. It’s where I get rid of the creativity blocks and get a connection with my source of inspiration that’s in heaven.
JUMP INTO A MOVIE, AND HANG OUT FOR A DAY.
I guess movies I would jump into would be Interstellar or Donnie Darko. Love the time-travel thrillers.
LONG LIVE LIFE MOTTOS.
Simple. Don’t live a boring life.
